Light rain is tapping on the metal roof, and I am soothed by the sound. Here in these pre-dawn hours, it’s promise feeds hope for freshened flows as summer comes to it’s quiet finale.
A Catskill Summer is a long glide, a parade of bright, beautiful days carried upon crystalline waters. Upon it’s ending, the ride slows and so the fishing, giving time to appreciate countless days of grace these mountains have bestowed.

Here, at the end of this wonderful ride, the days offer a preview of autumn. The air cools, and the rains have more permanence than those summer showers. The trout have grown scarce, forsaking their regular haunts, and an angler knows that long days may extend his time where his soul is gentled, though likely that the hours expended will not build new memories of his triumphs. These times are for reflection and thanks.
